Antigua and Barbuda
UNHCR works with authorities in Antigua and Barbuda* to address the protection needs of detained asylum-seekers. Through targeted interventions, UNHCR supports efforts to secure their release and advocates for fair and humane treatment in line with international standards. These activities form part of broader regional work to strengthen asylum systems, improve access to documentation, and ensure the rights of displaced people are respected across the Caribbean.
*UNHCR’s operations in Antigua and Barbuda are managed by the United States Multi-Country Office, which also oversees activities in the United States and 18 Caribbean States and overseas territories. These include: the Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; the British Overseas Territories of Anguilla, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Montserrat, and the Turks and Caicos Islands; as well as the Dutch Overseas Territory of Sint Maarten, part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
