*UNHCR’s operations in the Dominican Republic are managed by the United States multi-country office, which also oversees operations in the United States and 18 Caribbean States and overseas territories: Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Haiti, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines; the British overseas territories of Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Montserrat, and Turks and Caicos Islands; and the Dutch overseas territory of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Sint Maarten, with needs budgeted jointly.

The Dominican Republic is home to over 229,000 people in need of international protection, including stateless persons, asylum-seekers, and refugees. UNHCR supports the government in implementing regularization programs, strengthening the national asylum system, and ensuring access to documentation, education, and livelihoods. The office also plays a key role in emergency preparedness along the border with Haiti.
