Finland
UNHCR works with Finland to preserve access to asylum, promote integration, and advance refugee protection both nationally and globally.
UNHCR’s Representation for the Nordic and Baltic Countries covers Finland, as well as Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The office is located in Stockholm and maintains liaison offices in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
Finland is a steadfast partner to UNHCR, and prioritizes disability inclusion in humanitarian action, while also focusing on the rights of women and girls, and education.
UNHCR works closely with the Finnish authorities, civil society and other actors in implementing international standards on asylum and statelessness, ensuring that all persons of concern have access to their rights, while also raising public awareness and mobilizing support for global refugee protection.
UNHCR advocates for preservation of legal safeguards amid tightening asylum procedures and supports capacity development of all relevant stakeholders. UNHCR also supports refugee inclusion in integration policies and Finland’s national pilot programme on community sponsorship, aimed at enhancing refugee integration through local volunteer engagement.
