Georgia

UNHCR has been present in Georgia since 1993, working with the Government and partners to protect refugees, asylum-seekers, internally displaced persons, and stateless people.

Georgia is party to the 1951 Refugee Convention and both Statelessness Conventions. Apart from providing assistance and services to asylum seekers and refugees, UNHCR advises on asylum and integration policies, supports fair asylum procedures, and promotes socio-economic inclusion through language training, education and skills development.

It also coordinates the refugee response for people displaced from Ukraine, while sustaining protection and livelihood support for internally displaced persons in Abkhazia. Community empowerment and engagement remain central to its approach, ensuring displaced people can participate in and contribute to Georgian society.
