Mexico
UNHCR supports the efforts of the Government of Mexico to safeguard the rights and well-being of people who have been forced to flee their countries. It works to ensure durable solutions that promote integration in the country.

Key statistics
838,703
people were displaced or stateless (or returning from forced displacement) within the country at the end of 2024
243,988
Mexicans were refugees, asylum-seekers or otherwise in need of international protection worldwide at the end of 2024
$117.9 million
are needed in 2025 to ensure that operations and programmes in Mexico are sustained
Mexico has emerged as a key destination and transit country in the Americas for people in need of international protection, hosting more than 800,000 refugees, asylum-seekers, stateless persons, and others by end of 2024 – primarily from Venezuela, Honduras, Haiti, and Cuba.
Ongoing arrivals of asylum-seekers highlight Mexico’s expanding role in regional displacement dynamics and northbound mixed migration flows.
UNHCR supports the Mexican Government in ensuring access to protection and asylum for people fleeing violence and persecution. In partnership with national actors and host communities, UNHCR promotes durable solutions with a focus on local integration, rights protection, and long-term inclusion.
