*UNHCR’s operations in Uzbekistan are managed by the Kazakhstan multi-country office, which also oversees operations in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, with needs budgeted jointly.
Uzbekistan hosts the largest known stateless population in Central Asia, with 20,000 individuals, mostly former citizens of the Soviet Union who have yet to confirm or acquire the citizenship of successor states. Demonstrating significant progress, the country has resolved already over 35,000 cases of statelessness.
To support both regional humanitarian needs and national preparedness, UNHCR operates a Regional Humanitarian Logistics Hub at the Termez Cargo Centre, facilitating the rapid delivery of core relief items to Afghanistan and beyond.
UNHCR continues to support Uzbekistan in its stated goal of acceding to the UN Refugee and Statelessness Conventions, as committed in its 2018–2019 Universal Periodic Review.
