Internship Opportunities

1. Private Sector Partnerships Unit

Private sector fundraising and partnerships enable UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to extend the scope of its advocacy, awareness-raising and resource mobilization for refugees, internally displaced families, and stateless persons. UNHCR engages individual donors to support our mandate to provide life-saving assistance, protect the well-being, safeguard the rights and build better future of people forced to flee their homes due to wars, violence and persecution.

The selected interns will be based in UNHCR Philippines’ office in Makati City.

UNHCR Philippines’ Private Sector Partnerships Unit is looking for the following interns:

A. Intern for Campaign Coordination and Management

Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Support the Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) Unit in implementing and managing fundraising strategies;
2. Produce content for digital donor acquisition and engagement;
3. Produce content for donor communications;
4. Assist in the implementation of fundraising and communications campaigns;
5. Research and monitor trends in digital fundraising, social media tools, applications, channels, design and strategy;
6. Perform other tasks as necessary; and
7. Ensure that all content production and development adheres to UNHCR Brand Guidelines.

Qualifications and Experience:
The ideal candidate will:
–Hold a university degree or a background in Management, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or other related field;
–Be available for at least 30 hours per week for a three-month period;
–Be a strong communicator with advanced writing skills and fluency in English;
–Have strong organizing and project management skills;
–Have the ability to quickly understand instructions, asks for clarification when needed, adapt and work independently to produce results on time; and
–Be proficient in standard MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Desirable Qualifications and Competencies
–Knowledge of the UN system, procedures, and processes;
–Experience in working with a non-profit organization; and
–Experience of working in a humanitarian context would be an advantage.

B. Intern for Creative Content Development

Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Support the Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) Unit by developing creative content for donor acquisition and communications;
2. Develop creative content for social media;
3. Develop creative content for fundraising and communications campaigns; and
4. Ensure that all content production and development adheres to UNHCR Brand Guidelines.

Qualifications and Experience:
The ideal candidate will:
–Hold a university degree or a background in Graphic Design, Multimedia Arts, Information Design, Advertising, or other related field;
–Be available for at least 30 hours per week for a three-month period;
–Be a strong communicator with advanced writing skills and fluency in English;
–Have strong organizing and project management skills;
–Have the ability to quickly understand instructions, asks for clarification when needed, adapt and work independently to produce results on time;
–Be proficient in standard MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and
–Have design and document formatting skills. Experience using Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign are essential.

Desirable Qualifications and Competencies
–Knowledge of the UN system, procedures, and processes;
–Experience in working with a non-profit organization; and
–Experience of working in a humanitarian context would be an advantage.

C. Intern for Video Production

Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Support the Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) Unit by developing video content for donor acquisition and engagement;
2. Propose and develop video content for fundraising and communications campaigns; and
3. Ensure that all content production and development adheres to UNHCR Brand Guidelines.

Qualifications and Experience:
The ideal candidate will:
–Hold a univeristy degree or a background in Filmmaking, Visual Arts, Communications, or other related field;
–Be proficient in video editing and video content production;
–Be available for at least 20 hours per week for a three-month period;
–Have strong organizing and project management skills;
–Have the ability to quickly understand instructions, asks for clarification when needed, adapt and work independently to produce results on time; and
–Be proficient in standard MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Desirable Qualifications and Competencies
–Knowledge of the UN system, procedures, and processes;
–Experience in working with a non-profit organization; and
–Experience of working in a humanitarian context would be an advantage.

D. Intern for Administration

Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Support with administrative tasks relating to the activities of the Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) unit
2. Assist in content production across all communication platforms
3. Perform other duties as required

–Be available for at least 30 hours per week for a three-month period;
–Be a strong communicator with advanced writing skills and fluency in English;
–Have strong organizing and project management skills;
–Have the ability to quickly understand instructions, asks for clarification when needed, adapt and work independently to produce results on time;
–Be proficient in standard MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and

2. External Relations Unit

Position Title: External Relations Intern
Number of Posts: 1 Intern
Duration: 3 months
Availability of Post: 5 February 2018
Duty Station: Manila, Philippines

UNHCR Philippines is inviting new graduates or students currently enrolled in a university to join the team as an External Relations Intern. The purpose of the internship programme is twofold:

  1. Primarily, provide the intern with an opportunity to gain practical work experience related to his/her academic programme or future work in a field related to UNHCR’s mission (e.g. international relations, international law, human rights, administration, public information, field work, etc.)
  2. Secondly, to provide UNHCR office with the assistance of qualified intern specialized in various professional fields, in this case, field in communications.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide support to the day-to-day External Relations activities
  2. Prepare content calendar for social media
  3. Assist in the preparation of a high-level summit to be held in Q1
  4. Monitor news and be informed on the latest news relevant to UNHCR
  5. Other tasks as may reasonably be required

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Graduate of or currently enrolled in Media, Journalism, Communications, International Relations, or other related fields
  2. Strong interest in refugee and/or stateless persons’ rights, international relations, human rights and humanitarian response
  3. Excellent command of written and verbal English
  4. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and use of the web
  5. Intermediate multimedia production skills using Adobe Creative Cloud or other graphic design software

Desirable Competencies

  1. Ability to develop rapport internally and externally in a multicultural environment
  2. Fluency in Filipino and local languages in Mindanao an advantage
  3. Preferably able to work at least 30 hours per week

3. Protection Unit

Position Title: Protection Intern
Duration: 2 months
Availability of Post: 29 January 2018
Direct Supervisor: Protection Unit
Duty Station: Manila, Philippines

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Protection Unit, the intern(s) will perform the following tasks:
1. Providing support to the daily running of the office and in particular to the Protection Unit
2. Provide support in the conduct of advocacy meetings
3. Assist in attending to the needs of persons of concern
4. Liaise with partners in the implementation of activities
5. Conducting research (non-legal)
6. Administrative tasks (i.e., filing, taking minutes, event management, logistics, etc.)
7. Other tasks as may reasonably be required

Qualifications and Experience

1. Bachelor’s Degree, either already obtained or in-process
2. Strong interest in refugee and/or stateless persons’ rights, international relations, human rights and humanitarian response
3. Strong verbal and written ability in English
4. Effective research skills
5. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint) and use of the web
6. Solid experience in administrative work
7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

Financial Considerations

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNHCR. Costs and arrangements for travel including travel arrangements to and from the location where the internship will be carried out, visas and accommodation and living expenses are the responsibilities of the intern.

UNHCR accepts no responsibility for medical insurance of the intern or costs arising from accident and illness incurred during an internship. Interns should have their own insurance.

Although interns are neither “staff members” nor “officials” within the meaning of the Convention on Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations of 13 February 1946, he/ she shall observe all applicable rules, regulations, instructions, procedures and directives of the Organization.
