Voices in color: Sudanese art

Learn about the realities of forced displacement through art.

Striking works by Sudanese refugees capture the raw realities of displacement and the strength of resilience through bold colors and vivid imagery. More than art, these pieces tell stories of culture, history and identity, challenging perceptions and amplifying refugee voices. This exhibition invites viewers to see refugees as creators and agents of change. More Sudanese artwork can be found on the Development Action Platform for the Sudan Regional Crisis.

Backdrop of unity: JICA x Artolution x Uganda

Explore an international and collaborative artwork celebrating unity.

This monumental art installation brings together 66 canvases painted by refugees in Uganda’s Bidi Bidi Refugee Settlement, the largest in Africa, and participants in Japan. Each piece represents an individual vision of peace, forming a vibrant patchwork that transcends borders, languages, and cultures. By uniting these diverse expressions into one collective artwork, the installation symbolizes creativity, solidarity, and cross-border collaboration. It reflects the power of art in driving dialogue, harmony, and coexistence, reinforcing the Global Compact on Refugees’ emphasis on partnerships and community engagement.

MADE51 ‘Peace Tree’

Add your voice to an interactive installation that reimagines the traditional wish tree as a call for peace.

The first leaves on the Peace Tree will be messages written by refugees and forcibly displaced persons. The tree will be adorned with garlands crafted by refugee artisans living in ten countries using weaving, embroidery, beadwork, crochet and metalwork – showing the range of skills refugees have carried into displacement and continue to employ through MADE51. Participants at the GRF will be invited to add their own leaf-messages, linking their voices with those of refugees and strengthening the shared call for peace. Visit the tree, write your message and read the powerful messages left by a diverse group of stakeholders and change-makers.
