On June 19, UNHCR and the UN Information Centre organised a ceremony at the common UN premises in Tunis. Government officials, embassies, NGOs, academics and journalists were invited. Between various speeches, two videos were screened: "Jour de match à Nakivale" showing refugees actively participating in sport activities in Uganda, and "Facing our Future" about refugee youth.

The celebration continued in Tunis on June 20. UNHCR and Tunisian Scouts co-organised an event to improve refugee morale and provide them with an opportunity to socialise. A drawing contest on the theme, "The Future of Young Refugees", had earlier been launched among refugee children and youngsters from the Red Crescent Society. Some of the drawings were exhibited together with posters and photos at the Scouts' Headquarters, the venue of the celebration. After an opening song by the Scouts and some speeches, the six contest winners were given prizes, including shopping vouchers and books. Refugees and Tunisian Scouts performed music to entertain the guests.
