Luxembourg

In 2021, Luxembourg counted 1249 asylum applications, over half of which were submitted by people from Syria and Eritrea. In the same year, 898 people were recognised as refugees or received subsidiary protection.

UNHCR’s work in Luxembourg focuses on supporting authorities and organisations which work with refugees, asylum-seekers and stateless persons. UNHCR’s objective is to ensure that Luxembourgish legislation, asylum procedures, policies, and practices align with international protection standards. In addition, UNHCR raises awareness among the general public about the work of UNHCR and the situation of refugees in Luxembourg and elsewhere.
