Recommendation to Sweden on strengthening refugee protection
Recommendation to Sweden on strengthening refugee protection
This document sets out a number of observations and recommendations for improvement of the legal framework for the protection of refugees and stateless persons in Sweden. The recommendations are addressed to the Swedish Government, parliamentarians and other relevant stakeholders. They aim to contribute to constructive dialogue on asylum procedures, secure residence status, family reunification, integration, and the prevention and reduction of statelessness.
UNHCR publishes this recommendation at a time when important discussions need to be held regarding the past four years of drastic changes and restrictions in migration policy.
The recommendations cover protection-sensitive implementation of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum, as well as Sweden’s role in European cooperation and global responsibility-sharing, including through humanitarian funding, resettlement and other safe pathways.
Similar papers have been published in other countries, covered by the UNHCR Representation.
