Observations by UNHCR on the Norwegian proposal to improve age assessments of unaccompanied minors

8 November 2016 Also available in:

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has submitted our observations to the proposed legislative motion regarding age assessments of unaccompanied and separated child asylum seekers.

The proposal seeks to clarify the method for assessing the age of minors seeking asylum in Norway.

UNHCR welcomes that Norway is aiming to research further complementary methods for age assessments and recommends that age assessments are conducted in a holistic manner with the necessary safeguards in line with the best interests of the child.

The observations are available here.
