World Refugee Day 2007 National Activities: Brazil

A soccer tournament and a health fair were organized in Rio de Janeiro. The tournament included refugees, their Brazilian friends and local members of the community.

Academic books and literature on refugee issues were released in São Paulo during a ceremony which included a roundtable with the authors, a recital by a chorus made up of refugees and Brazilians, and an exhibition of UNHCR photographs and postcards.

Seminars for scholars, human rights organizations, government officials, private sector representatives and policymakers were held in Brasilia, Roraima and Manaus. They were organized by UNHCR and its partners.

A fund-raising campaign targeting 10,000 people was undertaken throughout the country.
