World Refugee Day 2007 National Activities: Gabon
Activities in the Gabon capital of Libreville focused on the rights of the child. A 13-year-old refugee child spoke about his dreams and wishes, while a drama about childrens' rights was presented by refugee children. Children presented poems and drawings based on events in their daily life. WRD ended with a football match between a refugee team and the UN.
In Franceville, refugees conducted a cleaning-up operation in Saint Dominique Church and in Lebombi-Leyou district. Refugees performed dramas about the problems they face in asylum countries. A marathon was organized.
In Thibanga, the local authorities were asked to consider the refugees' desire for identity documents. This was followed by sketches, songs, dances and a lottery.
