UNHCR and UNS Training - Professional Reporting and the Portrayal of Refugees in the Media
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Journalists' Association of Serbia (UNS), with the support of the European Union in Serbia, held a training titled “Professional Reporting and the Portrayal of Refugees in the Media” at the premises of the UNS Press Centre in Belgrade.
On this occasion, participants had the opportunity to speak with Momir Turudic (Editor, OKO), Biljana Jovicic (Journalist, RTS) and Igor Pavicevic (Photographer), who have reported on refugees and refugee crises in Serbia and around the world.
Attendees also heard from refugees from Syria, Iran and Afghanistan who have found refuge in Serbia. They shared their personal stories and experiences with media representatives.
Based on previous experiences, UNHCR and UNS expect that this type of training will contribute to a better understanding of the topic of forced displacement and the standards for professional journalistic work.
The training participants were welcomed by Danijela Nedic, from the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, Nino Brajović, Secretary-General of the Journalists' Association of Serbia and Soufiane Adjali, UNHCR Representative in Serbia.
This training was organized within the project “EU Support to Migration Management: Fostering the Integration of Refugees and Migrants,” implemented by UNHCR Serbia in partnership with IOM Serbia and the Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration with the support of the European Union.
