Jordan
Jordan is one of the countries most affected by the Syria crisis, hosting the second-highest share of refugees per capita in the world. More than 760,000 refugees are registered with UNHCR, predominantly from Syria, with large groups from Iraq, Yemen, Sudan, and Somalia. Some 83% live in urban areas outside of refugee camps.
UNHCR works closely with the Government of Jordan and numerous other national and international partners in providing protection and assistance to refugees and asylum seekers, as well as to Jordanian communities affected by the refugee influx.
Through its four offices located in Amman, Mafraq, Azraq and Irbid, UNHCR maintains a robust presence across the Kingdom with over 500 staff. In the two biggest camps of Zaatari and Azraq, UNHCR is leading a range of activities and services, including camp coordination, protection and outreach, community services, livelihoods, shelter, and energy.
