Observations from UNHCR on Latvian law proposals
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency has submitted comments to draft amendments to the Latvian State Border Law and State Border Guard Law.
UNHCR’s Representation for the Nordic and Baltic Countries has submitted its observations on the draft amendments to the Law of Republic of Latvia on the State Border Guard Law (No 278/Lp14) and to the Law of Republic of Latvia on the State Border of the Republic of Latvia (No 277/Lp14).
The amendments build on the Declaration of Emergency Situation, adopted by Latvia's Cabinet of Ministers in August 2021 to which UNHCR shared observations in October 2021.
UNHCR has analyzed both proposals and prepared observations with specific recommendations, which have been shared with the Government of Latvia.
