*UNHCR’s operations in Slovenia are managed by the Hungary multi-country office, which also oversees operations in Czechia, Hungary and Slovakia, with needs budgeted jointly.
UNHCR has been present in Slovenia since 1992 and operates as part of the Multi-Country Office based in Hungary.
Working closely with national authorities, municipalities, civil society, and partners, UNHCR provides legal counselling and psychosocial support, promotes inclusion, and seeks sustainable solutions for refugees, asylum-seekers, and stateless persons. We also strive to foster public understanding and support for people forced to flee.
In Slovenia, UNHCR works to ensure non-discriminatory access to protection and services through strengthened national systems. In 2024, UNHCR contributed to the resumption of the national resettlement scheme, launched a pilot education pathway for refugees, and supported the integration of resettled refugees from Türkiye. Our efforts also focused on improving reception conditions, addressing risks of trafficking, particularly for unaccompanied minors, and expanding access to social protection through engagement with municipalities and local communities.
