SHOW Results

SHOW results is the third and last phase of the results-based management cycle, interconnecting with the preceding PLAN for Results and GET Results phases. It takes place between January and April each year. During this time, UNHCR conducts its annual implementation review, including project closure, results data analysis, the Strategic Moment of Reflection (SMR), and the Annual Results Report (ARR). The outcomes of the SHOW phase inform updates to existing strategies, the development of new strategies, and external reporting.

The SHOW Results phase involves the following components:

  • Annual project closure: Operations conduct annual project closure to ensure sound fiscal management and accountability through partnerships. Closure involves evaluations, performance verifications, and financial audits following a risk-based approach.
  • Strategic Moment of Reflection (SMR): Operations analyse monitoring results, indicator data and other evidence. Together with other relevant stakeholders, operations examine progress, achievements, challenges, and lessons learned from the implementation of the strategy, identifying areas for reprioritization or adjustments.
  • Annual Results Report (ARR): This report tells the story of how the situation of forcibly displaced and stateless people has changed. It consolidates evidence and data, including indicator and financial reports, and is informed by the Annual Statistics Report, which provides the latest population trends in the operation.
  • External Reporting: The ARR serves as the primary document for external reporting and forms the basis for UNHCR’s Global Report. In addition to statutory reports to governance bodies, they enhance the credibility and transparency of UNHCR by addressing various external audiences, including the UNHCR Executive Committee, donors, organizations, forcibly displaced and stateless people, and the public.

These components are interlinked:

  • Annual project closure data is necessary for operations to consolidate and analyse monitoring and indicator data.
  • The data analysis informs both the Strategic Moment of Reflection and the Annual Results Report.
  • During the Strategic Moment of Reflection, operations, along with relevant stakeholders, analyse the progress, achievements, and lessons learned, using monitoring results, indicator data, and other evidence. This analysis helps identify areas for strategic adjustments or reprioritization.
  • The Annual Results Report consolidates this evidence and presents results from indicator and financial reports, demonstrating how UNHCR provides protection and finds solutions for forcibly displaced and stateless people.

The SHOW Results phase requires the collaboration of results managers, external relations and information management and can be led by the planning coordinator under the authority of the representative (for country operations) or director (for bureaux, and headquarters divisions and entities).
